Welcome to the Triple Stag Ranch located in Mountain Home, Texas. We purchased our ranch in 2004 and have spent some time preparing feeders and deer stands and our ranch house! The barn is up and the retirement home is complete!
We hope you enjoy our website, and we’d love to hear from you! This ranch is a labor of nothing but love and we are enjoying every minute of it too!
White-tailed deer and mule deer look very similar, but a few key characteristics will help you distinguish between the two. The average body size of mule deer is usually larger than white-tailed deer; however, this is not a great identification tool because you rarely have both species standing next to each other for comparison.
Texas is home to four species of quail, a claim that only three other states can make (Arizona, California, and New Mexico are the others). The Northern Bobwhite Quail is found in all but the western third of the state, and the scaled or “blue” quail is found in the western half. The Montezuma and Gambel’s quail are much less common and are found in only a few areas due to their specific habitat needs.
Feral hogs (Sus scrofa) are an old world species belonging to the family Suidae, and in Texas include European wild hogs, feral hogs, and European-feral crossbreeds. Feral hogs are domestic hogs that either escaped or were released for hunting purposes. With each generation, the hog’s domestic characteristics diminish and they develop the traits needed for survival in the wild. (Rick Taylor, The Feral Hog in Texas)
According to the South Texas Poison Center, Texas is home to eight different types of these snakes.
